Northern Greece

Lake Kerkini N.P., the Thessaloniki west coastal area (Kalochori lagoon, Axios – Loudias – Aliakmonas delta), the Nestos delta, the Thracian lakes and coastline, and the Evros delta and Evros district (including Dadia Forest N.P.) — plus other major wetlands, river deltas and mountains of Central Makedonia and Thrace.

Cyprus

Mid March – mid April

The island in spring, for the migration, the endemics, and a real chance at its mammals, reptiles and flora.

We travel the non-occupied (south) part of the island in spring, mainly for the spring bird migration, plus the endemic birds of Cyprus.

The tour also offers a good chance to see some of the island's terrestrial mammals — Cyprus mouflon, Long-eared Hedgehog, Egyptian Fruit Bat — along with reptiles and flora.

It is a combination of bird and wildlife watching and getting to know the island's character in terms of nature and habitats.

For people focused on mammals who also appreciate seeing the birdlife and other wildlife of each area.

For people who want to plan their own trip — visiting particular areas, or putting an effort into particular species — and for those who want to make their own plans but with the experience of a local guide behind them.

Our signature trip

Bear watching & mammal watching tours

Small-group trips into remote mountain country, tracking bears in their own habitat.

These tours are offered to individuals or small groups of up to 5 people maximum, typically running 3–7 days (though they can be extended) in less-known, rural, mostly mountainous areas. The focus is on finding bears in their natural habitats without using baits or any other means of attracting the animals.

Working only from the guide's knowledge of the areas and of the species' biology and habits, we explore pristine and beautiful habitats by car and on short hikes, searching for bears and the other mammals that live there.

In the areas we visit there are good chances of seeing a number of interesting birds that inhabit the same, often mountainous ground — Rock Partridge, Rock Thrush, Rock and Ortolan Bunting, Alpine Accentor, Alpine Chough, Horned Lark, Water and Tawny Pipit among them — plus reptiles and flora, especially in spring.

Common Questions

Do I need my own gear?

We provide spotting scopes for the group. We recommend bringing your own binoculars, but we have spares available upon request.

What about bad weather?

Birds are often active in light rain! However, in case of severe weather, we can reschedule at no extra cost.

What fitness level is required?

Most tours involve easy to moderate walking. Bear watching tours include hikes of up to 2–3 km in mountainous terrain. Each tour type notes what it asks of you.

Can I bring my own camera?

Absolutely! Photography tours are designed with photographers in mind. Your guide will help you with settings, composition, and finding the best light.
